Man wanted for 19 years found in West Nipissing
A man wanted in relation to an incident nearly two decades ago in Bancroft, was found and arrested in West Nipissing, according to police.
Officers say a 64-year-old from the United States was arrested and charged with:
- Careless use of a firearm, weapon, device or ammunition
- Production of a Schedule 2 substance
- Possession for the purpose of a Schedule 2 substance over 3 kilograms
When the investigation began, the Bancroft OPP used a search warrant at a home on Mooney Road in Hastings Highlands in June 2001. In the home, officers found and seized 200 cannabis plants. They also found equipment they report was part of an “extensive indoor growing operation.” Officers also recovered suspected methamphetamine, a loaded firearm as well as nearly two dozen pit bulldogs from the residence.
Officers say an arrest warrant was issued and they found the accused was also wanted by the State of Texas. Since then, the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) joined the investigation.
Police say the investigation led to finding the 64-year-old at a home on Millrand Road in Verner. The accused remains in custody pending a bail hearing in Belleville on Thursday. Once the Canadian criminal proceedings are completed, the accused will be turned over to the CBSA to be processed under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
