Vanthof demands a fix to problem of mixed COVID-19 messages from government

First reported by Bob McIntyre

There are problems with the province’s COVID-19 information line, and Timiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof wants them fixed.

The New Democrat told the legislature that the state of emergency keeps campgrounds in his riding from opening.  Yet – as he discussed with two ministers – when owners call the info line, they’re told it’s okay to open.

“If we’re discussing something about emergency measures and a minister tells me ‘Yeah, well you know, we’ve just go kids on the hotline, that’s why they’re giving the wrong information,’ okay, wait a second, hold the phone and fix that,” says Vanthof.  “Fix that now, now.”

“One of my camp operators called the emergency hotline, challenged the operator, asked to speak to the supervisor.  She was told ‘Oh, we don’t have a supervisor.’ ‘I want to speak to the manager.’ ‘Oh, we don’t have one of those either.”

Vanthof says those business owners fall through the cracks of federal relief programs… are becoming desperate to pay their bills and feed their families.
