NBRHC resuming some surgeries and procedures

The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is reporting the resumption of some surgeries, appointments, and procedures on Monday.

Officials say patients will be contacted directly to reschedule their procedures. Not all surgeries and procedures will resume right away. Patients are asked not to contact the health centre to ask when you will be rescheduled.

“For those patients waiting for surgery or procedures, we know this wait isn’t easy. The decision to postpone these services was not made lightly and was guided by provincial direction to ensure capacity in our hospitals to meet COVID-19 patient needs,” NBRHC officials said on Facebook. “Due to our local COVID-19 activity, we have been able to provide limited service in some of the very urgent cases since March. Please know that your health care team has been working hard behind the scenes to prepare our hospital so we can safely handle both surgical renewal and the needs of a potential COVID-19 surge.”

Officials add the hospital is following the province in their recommendation for a phased approach to service resumption in Ontario hospitals. NBRHC will continue to monitor COVID-19 numbers and may revise their plan if there is a surge in local numbers.
