Summer plans call for a staycation says West Nipissing Chamber

The West Nipissing Chamber of Commerce has a message for those looking at booking vacations after the COVID-19 pandemic; make it a staycation.

Chamber officials say 25 per cent of West Nipissing’s workforce is employed in tourism, hospitality, and retail sectors, the three sectors that have seen the biggest impact on business during the pandemic.

However, officials say there is a light at the end of the tunnel as some retail stores have begun to reopen, and local golf courses have begun to accept golfers. The Chamber of Commerce is urging residents to support local in those fields as much as possible during this time.

Yet, when it comes to tourism, a lot of the business is seasonal and they have begun to feel the pinch, according to officials, which is why a staycation is recommended. Although most of these locations cannot accept guests yet, they are taking bookings.

“We have many beautiful cottages and campgrounds here in West Nipissing and they will need our support!” Chamber of Commerce officials said.
