The numbers are in for road safety week

The Nipissing West OPP says their numbers are in after road safety week.

Officials say the annual awareness campaign ran from May 12 to May 18 and is designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures.

Officers say the campaign yielded many charges in the area, including:

  • Impaired by Drug charges: one
  • Speeding charges: 109
  • Seatbelt charges: three
  • Fail to Yield charges: two
  • Stunt Driving charges: two

OPP officials say they remain committed to saving lives on the road, and drivers should adopt safe, defensive driving behaviours which can go a long way in reducing the number of preventable deaths.
