No resolution on water meter rates

The debate lasted nearly three hours, and when it was over there was still no consensus on North Bay council on how to apply water rates.  The recommended option was to start with a 60 percent fixed rate and 40 percent variable where people are charged for what they use.  That puts the fixed residential rate at $31.06 a month with the goal of reducing the ratio to 40 percent fixed and 60 percent variable by 2018.  However next Monday councillor Daryl Vaillancourt will suggest going with the 40 fixed and 60 variable option right away.  Mac Bain plans to second his amendment.  Regardless of what’s picked, the goal is to implement the meters July 1st.
