Hospice sets up Mother’s Day fundraiser

Nipissing Serenity Hospice has set up a new online fundraiser, one that will also get you in the good books with Mom.

The Mother’s Day “Blooms and Aroma’s” gift package will be available for purchase online until May 6. The gift packages are filled with items from Twigg’s Coffee Roasters and Laporte’s Nursery and Greenhouses. Officials say electronic payments, along with a drive-thru at the hospice to pick up the packages will keep with the spirit of physical-distancing.

The packages are valued at $100 and the goal is to sell 500, as other fundraisers have had to be cancelled which has put a dent into the newly opened hospice’s operations, according to officials. Proceeds will go straight to community residents.

Officials say the status of the biggest fundraiser, the “Hike for Hospice” also remains up in the air.

“At the moment we have postponed the event, and with so many uncertainties in the coming weeks and months, we are not sure when or if we will be able to reschedule it this summer,” says Jane Jackson, interim Executive Director. “We have also had to restrict our volunteer program, to ensure the safety of our residents and community. Volunteers play a large role at the hospice and this has had a tremendous impact on our operations.”
