‘Unwanted gift’ of clothes nets charges for resident says police

Nipissing West OPP say for the past 10 months, residents of Labine Road in Markstay-Warren, have woken up to gifts waiting for them at the end of their driveways.

Officials say the residents would wake up to find clothing thrown at the end of their driveways a few times a week. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic ramped up, they grew concerned for their health as they were having to continually pick up the clothing.

On Sunday, just before midnight, police say they saw a person throwing clothes out the window of their vehicle while driving by a home. The vehicle was stopped shortly after.

As a result, the 71-year-old from West Nipissing is charged with:

  • Mischief – obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor
  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence

The accused has been released and will appear before court in Sudbury on August 5.
