Card left in ATM leads to charges laid by Nipissing West OPP

Everyone has forgotten their credit or debit card after using an ATM.

Nipissing West OPP say Friday afternoon on King Street in West Nipissing, that exact scenario played out. Investigation shows the person using the machine close to 4:00 p.m. before forgetting to take their card with them. After a few minutes, they returned for their card but it was gone.

Officials say by the time the victim was able to cancel the card, it had already been used multiple times at local businesses by using the tap feature.

On Monday, police say they were able to identify the accused through video surveillance and arrest them. As a result, a 50-year-old from West Nipissing is charged with:

  • Fraud Under $5,000 (7 counts)
  • Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

The accused has been released and will appear before court in West Nipissing on July 2.
