New Democrats fight for ACR subsidy reinstatement

Two Northern Ontario New Democrats are delivering a one-two punch over a federal decision to cancel a subsidy to Algoma Central Railway.  Carol Hughes of Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing says the service is being axed at a time when our low Loonie can attract many Americans north.  Meanwhile Algoma Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha wants the provincial government to work with the feds on finding a solution to save the service.  Mantha says northerners are fighting the selloff of the ONTC and now with the ACR line in jeopardy, the bad news keeps piling up for the north.  The feds are killing ACR’s subsidy for passenger rail service between Sault Ste. Marie and Hearst.
