McDonald: New terminal makes attracting second carrier a little easier

North Bay mayor Al McDonald says the city now has a better chance of attracting a second air carrier.  McDonald made the comment after helping to officially open the new terminal at Jack Garland Airport on Tuesday.  A study shows passenger demand can support a second carrier.  But McDonald says believe it or not the biggest hurdle to getting that second carrier is the proximity of our four-lane highway to Toronto.  He says the four lane highway makes it easier for people to jump in their cars and fly out of Toronto.  Other major northern cities don’t face this problem.  He says that’s why North Bay has to sell itself to prospective carriers.  McDonald says the city stays in regular contact with Westjet and Porter Airlines in an effort to attract one of the two carriers.
