Planning underway for child care options to assist local essential workers

The District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board (DNSSAB) says it is working with licensed child care service providers in the district and the local health unit to set up a plan to provide emergency child care for essential workers.

On March 17, the Premier of Ontario declared a state of emergency and ordered the closure of all licensed child care centres and all facilities providing indoor recreational programs (including EarlyON Child and Family Centres).

The list of essential workers eligible for emergency child care is provided to the DNSSAB by the Ministry of Education. The proposed plan is designed to support essential workers and their families at this time of need.

The DNSSAB is exploring options for the community such as full-time, part-time, on-call, evening, weekend and/or overnight care and the needs of eligible families.

The social services board says the implementation of the proposed plan is contingent on ministry approval.

Further updates are posted regularly on the DNSSAB website.
