North Bay YMCA employees save man's life

Quick action by several people at the YMCA in North Bay on Wednesday saved a man’s life.  The 69-year-old had just finished swimming several lengths and started talking to a lifeguard when he collapsed in front of her.  Staff got a defibrillator and the lifeguard, who is also a paramedic instructor, applied one shock and got a pulse.  However the man’s heartbeat was lost as paramedics arrived and they began applying steady shocks and CPR until the man started breathing again.  By the time they arrived at the hospital the man was conscious and stable.  North Bay police are commending everyone at the Y who most likely saved the man’s life.
