Savage: safety the priority with COVID-19

The first confirmed case of COVID-19 to Sudbury came on Tuesday evening.

The man was known to have attended the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) 2020 conference, the same as dignitaries from North Bay, including Mayor Al McDonald.

With a confirmed case to the west, and potentially more to the east, West Nipissing is sandwiched right between. For Mayor Joanne Savage, that means safety is the priority.

“We want to make sure everyone is safe,” she explained. “We want to make sure that we are well prepared to be able to handle the situation. I have been keeping in reading all the local news and advertisements between the health unit and the hospital.”

“I was at a meeting yesterday [for the Au Chateau board],” Savage continued. “I do know that they received a notification that they will have to adopt measures for screening because seniors are vulnerable.”

Savage says the onus is on everybody to try and limit the spread of the virus.

“I think we need to be aware that we all have a role and responsibility and adopt the measures that are being recommended to avoid the situation coming to our area or eliminate the risk and becoming a crisis situation,” Savage stated.

As for PDAC, she said she had plans to go, but didn’t end up making the conference.
