Savage: budget process moving along

The 2020 West Nipissing budget was an item on council’s agenda, but as Mayor Joanne Savage explains, they ran out of time.

“We were hoping to continue the discussions, but the discussion on the recreational camper by-law took most of the allotted time,” Savage said. “We’re going to have a special budget meeting which will be scheduled for next Tuesday.”

The meetings have been an ongoing discussion for some time now, but there seems to be a light at the end of the tunnel.

“We’re moving along and we’re hoping to be able to have a budget as quickly as possible,” she explained. “It basically defines what are the priorities for 2020 and what work is to be completed. We want to make sure to be able to complete all of this work.”

According to Savage, budget presentations from all the departments have been made. That means council will need to look at the numbers and determine where to go from here.

“There is an opportunity of elected officials to be able to identify any concerns or any issues that they wish to entertain within the budget,” Savage explained. “We’re at the last phase of being able to realize our budget for 2020.”
