IPM, camping trailers by-law, and Mr. Gas parking all on the docket for council

West Nipissing council is gearing up for another meeting Tuesday night.

There are a number of items to be presented before mayor and council, including an economic spin-off report of the 2019 International Plowing Match (IPM), which was held in Verner.

The report, to be presented by Neil Fox, the chair of the 2019 IPM, finds 71.4 per cent of visitors travelled over 40 kilometres to attend the IPM, and 35 per cent stayed at least one night in the area. The average non-local visitor spent $59 on food and beverages, and $78 on merchandise. Total spending by non-locals was calculated at $4,670,744, with accommodations and camping making up $1,429,458 of that figure.

Another item on the front burner is the proposed licencing by-law for camping trailers. The motion was originally brought forward in May 2019, current recommendations include adopting a trailer licencing by-law, or amending the West Nipissing zoning by-law.

An issue brought to council in regards to parking at Mr. Gas on Front Street will be dealt with as well. A letter written to council states patrons of Tim Hortons next to the gas station is parking at Mr. Gas while attending the coffee shop. With the parking being taken up at the station, it makes it difficult to receive fuel delivery, as well as the Greyhound bus that comes twice a day.
