Parenting campaign launches at Early ON Centre

The Nipissing Parry Sound District Health Unit and Early ON Centre have launched a new campaign to help parents connect with their children.

The “Parenting Campaign” is based on four pillars:

  • Listen, respond and connect with your child
  • Help your child recognize their emotions
  • Let your child play
  • Take care of yourself

“The four messages combined actually came from years of work with parents and the ideas bubbled up from them,” April Porter, the manager of the Early ON Centre explained. “We really tried to take their thoughts and feelings and incorporate it into four key messages.”

Each of the pillars will represent a month:

  • February is listen, respond and connect month
  • March is to help your child recognize their emotions
  • April is letting your child play
  • May is taking care of yourself

“They all connect in some way,” Porter said. “If you are taking care of yourself and feel well-rested and can take on your day, you will be more apt be aware of conversations and to listen.”
