OECTA to strike again tomorrow

All schools in the Nipissing Parry Sound Catholic School Board (NPSC) will be closed to students tomorrow.

The Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA) announced its members will take part in a one-day withdrawal of services province-wide. OECTA represents all elementary, secondary, and occasional teachers across the NPSC.

The two sides resumed bargaining today, as directed by a conciliator appointed by the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

The schools to be closed are:

  • St. Joseph Scollard Hall
  • Holy Cross
  • Mother St. Bride
  • Our Lady of Fatima
  • Our Lady of Sorrows (Sturgeon Falls)
  • St. Alexander
  • St. Francis
  • St. Gregory (Powassan)
  • St. Hubert
  • St. Luke
  • St. Theresa (Callander)
  • St. Victor (Mattawa)

NPSC says parents are encouraged to make alternate arrangements for children prior to the strike. School transportation will be running, but students of an NPSC school should not board the bus.

The board adds that all field trips, sports, extra-curricular activities and practices scheduled for before and after school hours Tuesday have been cancelled.

Schools will reopen on Wednesday.
