Budget presentations and deliberations continue tomorrow night in West Nipissing.
Starting with a $2 million shortfall in the 2020 budget, the municipality will work toward lowering what began as a double-digit tax levy increase.
After a loss of $260,000 in projected revenue in 2019, West Nipissing is bracing for an increase of nearly $2 million in municipal expenditures in 2020.
Town officials say this is merely a starting point for discussions based on requests for funding from community stakeholders.
Almost $700,000 of that increase can be attributed to a few expenditures, including $167,000 to the DNSSAB (District of Nipissing Social Services Administration Board), $166,000 to Au Chateau Home for the Aged, and $75,000 in wage and benefit hikes.
Add in another $86,000 for police and $43,000 to the health unit and the budget team will have its work cut out to bring down the levy.
The budget meeting begins at 6:30pm on Tuesday.
