Sault council asks feds for rail subsidy reprieve

City council in Sault Ste. Marie is asking the federal government to fund a passenger rail service from its city to Hearst for one more year.  Council says that gives stakeholders time to find a solution that keeps the service viable.  CN is cutting the service as of March 30th because the feds have eliminated a subsidy for the Northern Ontario run.  Algoma Manitoulin Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes says losing the service will have a negative effect on the north’s tourism.
