Patients now welcomed at the Nipissing Serenity Hospice

The Nipissing Serenity Hospice is now accepting patients.

The facility officially opened on January 11th with speeches from dignitaries and a ribbon-cutting ceremony, but patients weren’t immediately admitted. Mathilde Bazinet, whose vision it was to have a hospice in the city, said at the time that it was because the ventilation system had to be flushed of all the dust from construction.

“We are thrilled to announce our team and volunteers are ready and we have space available for patients,” says Elizabeth Evans, Executive Director. “Nipissing Serenity Hospice is a safe and welcoming, home-like space for palliative patients and their families, available at no cost.”

Anyone who has been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness with a life prognosis of fewer than three months is qualified to receive care at the 10-bed facility. The hospice says the palliative care team is accessible 24/7 and those who are without a doctor will have one assigned. Each patient will have a personalized care plan, designed to meet their need and requests.

“Our patients may only have a few days left and we are ready to provide comfort in their final days. We will accommodate our patient’s wishes whether that means a therapeutic bath, a family dinner cooked by our chef or have a beloved pet staying in the patient suite”, says Lindsay Campbell, Care Coordinator at Nipissing Serenity Hospice. “We are committed to our patient’s mind, body and spiritual care.”
