NNDSB and NPSC brace for one day strike

The Near North District School Board (NNDSB) and the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic School Board (NPSC) will close all of their schools tomorrow because of rotating strikes.

NNDSB and the NPSC have staff represented by the Ontario Teachers Federation (OSSTF) and Ontario English Catholic Teachers’ Association (OECTA). Both of the unions are negotiating new contracts with the province, but those talks have stalled.

The OSSTF represents not just high school teachers, but Early Childhood Educators (ECE), Educational Assistants (EA) and PSSP staff (Psychologists, Speech-Language Pathologists, Communicative Disorder Assistants, Behaviour Counsellors, among others) at NNDSB.

Meanwhile, the OECTA represents all elementary, secondary and occasional teachers at the NPSC. The board adds all field trips, all sports and extra-curricular activities and practices, scheduled for before and after school hours have been cancelled for Tuesday.

Both boards say that all childcare including before-and-after school childcare programs and community use will continue to operate and remain open.

The other two boards, Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord and Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario will have their schools remain open.
