Nipissing business owners needed fewer employees during November

Job postings in Nipissing District dropped in November.

The month saw employers post 339 help wanted signs compared to 458 postings that went up in October.

The difference represents a 26 percent drop month over month.

Both the North Bay Regional Health Centre and HGS posted 20 vacancies each.

Nipissing First Nation was the next top employer when it put up 11 help wanted signs.

Next up was Voyageur Aviation Corporation which was looking for eight employees while Metal Fab had work for six people.

When it comes to the types of industries where work was available, health care and social assistance topped the list with 17.7 percent of the available hirings.

The retail sector wasn’t far behind in second spot with 13.3 percent of the available hires.

Rounding out the top five sectors were accommodation and food services which had 10.9 percent of the jobs available, administrative and support, waste management and remediation services placed fourth at 10 percent which was followed by professional, scientific and technical services which had 7.1 percent of the hires.

The health sector was offering the highest annual salaried wages.

The North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit was ready to pay $85,748 for a program health manager while the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord school board needed an occupational health and safety officer for which it would pay that person $81,800 a year.

The board also needed a financial officer and the successful applicant would receive $73,918 annually.

When it comes to the highest hourly rate in November, Novo Healthnet Limited owned top spot by offering $40 an hour for a registered physiotherapist.

Just pennies behind at $39.84 was the position of public health inspector for the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit while Ontario Public Service was offering $39.28 for a regional development analyst.

The next highest hourly rate was for a northern strategy liaison intern at the Children’s Aid Society of the District of Nipissing and Parry Sound at $37.45.

In 5th spot was $37.20 for a data analyst with the Near North District School Board.
