Community Living to celebrate 65th anniversary

Community Living North Bay is set to celebrate a milestone.

On Sunday, the organization will be hosting its 65th anniversary at the Callander Community Centre from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Community Living says the event is family-friendly and the whole community is invited.

A hockey game at the Billy Barber Complex between the North Bay North Stars, Nipissing Lakers, and Police Association will kick off the festivities at 11. After the game, there will be a public skate, as well as other indoor and outdoor activities.

“In the early 1950s, a group of parents who had a vision of a better quality of life for their children with intellectual disabilities met to discuss how this dream could become a reality,” says Community Living. “The parents’ major concern was that their children with intellectual disabilities had to be transferred to institutions far from their family homes in order to receive any education. Through the vision of these parents, they started an association that would have a tremendous impact on their community.”
