West Nipissing woman charged with impaired twice in six days

A Sturgeon Falls woman has been charged with impaired driving twice in the span of six days.

The first charge came on December 6 when Nipissing West OPP received a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver who was seen leaving the Beer Store in Sturgeon Falls after an employee refused to serve her.

Officers searched for the vehicle before returning to the Beer Store where they found it parked with the woman asleep inside the car.

Police say they discovered that she had been consuming alcohol and drugs. The 54-year-old woman was arrested and charged with:

  • Driver Fail to Surrender Licence
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle

On December 12, the officer who arrested the woman returned to The Beer Store to follow up with a witness on the impaired investigation. When he arrived, he noticed that the same vehicle was in the parking lot idling. Upon closer investigation, the officer recognized the same woman he had arrested on December 6.

After another investigation, police say the woman had been consuming alcohol and drugs.  She was charged with Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs and was served with a 3-day Warn Range Suspension.

After both incidents, the accused was released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario on February 6, 2020.

These charges mark 60 Impaired Driving occurrences in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2019.

Nipissing West OPP would like to remind drivers that they can expect officers to be out at all times during the day and night conducting vehicle stops and RIDE checks. Drivers should anticipate the possibility of being asked to provide a breath sample under the Mandatory Alcohol Screening laws.
