Fedeli responds to criticism of Fall Economic Statement

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says Steven Del Duca is playing pure politics in criticizing the Ford government’s Fall Economic Statement.

Del Duca, who is a leadership candidate for the Ontario Liberal Party, says the mini-budget fails both North Bay, Fedeli’s hometown, and Northern Ontario.

Del Duca says Premier Doug Ford is a bull in a china shop who distracts his ministers with tweets and outbursts.

He adds Ford has scattershot policies that are not focused on issues that matter like investing in roads and bridges.

The upshot according to Del Duca is North Bay and the north have been ignored.

In response, Fedeli says Del Duca is one person he won’t be taking advice from when it comes to policies.

Fedeli says as a former MPP and cabinet minister, Del Duca is one of the Liberals responsible for saddling Ontario residents with a $15 billion deficit.

“I met him through the gas plant scandal where he defended the people who eventually went to jail for four months,” Fedeli said.

Fedeli says the Fall Economic Statement is more of a financial statement as opposed to being a budget.

He says next year’s budget will contain all the announcements and details.

“This was an update on where we are financially,” he said.

“But we were able to include a couple of our election promises.”

Fedeli says those promises were dropping the aviation fuel tax from 6.7 cents to 2.7 cents which he says is a huge drop and helps the industry.

“In addition, the small business tax rate will drop 8.7 percent,” he said.

“It means 275,000 businesses across Ontario including those in the North will save $1,500 each.”

Fedeli says other provisions for the North include a $10 million forestry fund and mining access to capital which further help create jobs.
