Council to discuss trailer and camping regulations

West Nipissing council is getting closer to drafting its bylaw to regulate trailers and campers.
A series of meetings are scheduled from November 18th to the 27th to inform residents of what council wants to do and to gather public input.
The meetings began on Monday in River Valley.
Next up is the meeting in Sturgeon Falls on Tuesday which will form part of the regular council meeting.
Mayor Joanne Savage is hopeful that as many people as possible attend the council meeting.
“We want to get their thoughts and their feedback,” said Savage.
The Mayor says she understands that camping is a way of life and it’s not the municipality’s intent to hinder an activity that many people enjoy.
But Savage points out the activity also has to be balanced against conformity.
She says the municipality has a responsibility to ensure that trailer and camping activities don’t create problems for the environment or water bodies.
Savage says the upcoming meetings are designed to give the public an overview of the situation.
Some points council is looking at is determining if properties should accommodate a certain number of trailers.
Council has been debating the issue for several months after the municipality’s by-law enforcement officer identified conformity issues with some trailer owners.
Following the meeting in Sturgeon Falls, a meeting is scheduled in Verner for November 20th.
The schedule takes a break and resumes with a meeting in Lavigne November 25th, November 26th in Field and ends November 27th with a meeting in Cache Bay.
