Company fined $35,000 for dumping rock at wrong site

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry are reminding companies that moving materials outside of permitted areas is illegal.

In mid-September, Coloured Aggregates Inc. was convicted of contravening its site plan contrary to the Aggregate Resources Act. Because of this, the company was fined $35,000 and given 30 days to pay.

The case was heard at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sturgeon Falls. The offence took place between June 1, 2017, and July 31, 2017, when the company was extracting rock within the permitted area, but stockpiling it outside of their boundaries. The company also upgraded an old logging road that was partially within their boundaries, and partially outside as well. Both of these actions contravened the site plan.

To report a natural resource violation, call the ministry TIPS line at 1-877-847-7667 toll-free, or contact your local ministry office. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS or report online.
