Toastmasters trying to branch out to West Nipissing

Toastmasters is looking to branch out to West Nipissing.

“We just had a mini-meeting to show some of the things you can learn in Toastmasters,” Colleen Charland, the Area Director for Toastmasters in the district covered between North Bay and Timmins. “We had a person that lives in Sturgeon Falls that joined the North Bay club because there isn’t a club here.”

Toastmasters is an organization that is designed to help people become more confident in their speaking and abilities.

“We just want people to know that there is a safe place that can be organized so they can come and practice speaking,” Charland explained. “Whether they want to stand up and run against the mayor in the next election, or become a member of parliament, whatever their goals are. It helps them and gives peer feedback and a safe place to practice.”

Previously, the Toastmasters raised awareness by flying their flag at North Bay’s City Hall.

The Toastmasters website allows people to get into contact with the closest branch of the organization. You can also email Colleen at [email protected], or contact the Literacy Alliance.
