Students aiming to lend a helping hand

Ecole Scolaire Public Nipissing Ouest is trying to get students out in the community with a fundraiser.

The school is selling $5 tickets for a raffle at the end of the month, with all proceeds to go towards an IV pump for the West Nipissing General Hospital.

“Our goal is to reach $5,000,” explained Elie Savignac, who is a resource teacher at the school. “We are asking students, members of the community, our staff, to sell tickets. With this ticket, we will have a raffle at the end of the month and whoever wins will receive a bench.”

“The main reason why we are doing this is that we have activities or different causes and we want our students to realize that their actions have consequences and if they choose to have positive actions, they can have a real impact in their communities or among themselves. Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our goal was to help our community the best we could.”

The draw takes place on October 30.

“If we can help a lot of individuals so they don’t need to travel to North Bay or Sudbury, and they can save those couple of hours of driving so they can receive the care here, that would make a huge difference to those families.”

The school will be going door to door on the 16th.
