King Street set to shine with new lights

Changes are coming to downtown Sturgeon Falls.

King Street is set to benefit from the Government of Ontario’s “Main Street Revitalization” initiative. The municipality has received nearly $50,000 to light a section of the street with decorative light posts. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of October.

“Our beautification group, many volunteers and local business owners have worked so hard over the last few months to beautify the community. This type of funding adds to our existing efforts and promotes a healthy, thriving downtown area,” stated Mayor Joanne Savage.

The Ontario government is investing $26 million through the Main Street Revitalization initiative province-wide. The fund is designed to support small businesses within main street areas.

“AMO is pleased that the Government of Ontario has made funding available for our communities’ main street areas, which are often the anchors of local communities. The upfront, allocation-based funding recognizes that municipal governments are in the best position to work with local businesses to identify priority projects for this funding,” said Jamie McGarvey, the President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario.
