Close call on Lake Nipissing prompts boat safety warning

A potentially deadly scenario unfolded on Lake Nipissing this past holiday weekend.

The North Bay OPP and Anishinabek Police Service responded to a report of people yelling for help on Lake Nipissing near Nova Beaucage Road in Nipissing First Nation.

The officers found that a boat with four occupants had capsized and they were unable to swim to shore. Officers were able to rescue the occupants who had suffered minor injuries. None of the occupants were wearing lifejackets.

With the colder weather on the way, hypothermia is a threat if you are to fall in and the water temperature is below 16C. The OPP also would like to remind you to wear lifejackets while out on the water.
