Average IPM corrals $20-25M in economic activity

Whenever a community hosts an event, the economic boost can be considerable.

The 2019 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo is no different as the event is sure to help West Nipissing out financially.

“There have been some research done ‘what has the average plowing match brings to a community,’” Jean Beauchemin, the Chair of Marketing for the IPM said. “The average match brings between 20 and 25 million dollars in economic activity. That’s pretty significant. Our goal is to expose West Nipissing but at the same time, put that injection of economic activity so that way people can benefit from it.”

This is a rare event to see in Northern Ontario, as it is only the second time that it has been hosted by a community north of Barrie in the 102 year run of the event. That means that West Nipissing, and the people, stand to benefit immensely.

“There is a lot of strength in the private sector,” Neil Fox, who sits on the board of directors for the IPM explained. “Our culture in this community is a reflection of the people who run these businesses, who continually support all the initiatives in West Nipissing. We are very fortunate to have put together a sponsorship package that will allow them opportunities to benefit from the event that we are putting on.”

The IPM runs September 17-21.
