Verner water situation ‘greatly improved’

The Municipality of West Nipissing says the monitoring and treatment of the municipal water system in Verner appears to have greatly improved the discolouration and levels of manganese in the water.

The latest testing at the Verner Water Plant has shown great results, measuring well below targets for colour and manganese.

Officials anticipate that with the cooperation of the weather and continued monitoring, conditions should remain favourable.

In early August, residents were supplied with bottled water. Initially, the municipality supplied two cases of bottled water per household but later increased that to four cases.

The municipality will be applying a $20 credit to the water bill of Verner residents to cover the cost of incidentals homeowners have incurred, such as having to take their clothing to a laundromat.

The water filling station in Verner was also closed until further notice.
