IPM coronation not your typical pageant

This Queen does not simply sit on a throne.

Cynthia Guindon says the Queen of the Furrow is not just a pageant. Contestants from across the province will, among other tasks, be competing in the daily plowing matches.

Guindon, who is one of the IPM’s Board of Directors, also sits on the committee for the Queen of the Furrow and looks forward to an exciting competition among well-rounded young women.

Northern Ontario’s representative is West Nipissingā€™s Zoe Dauphinais.

“It’s a competition between about 20 girls competing to be one of the best plowing competitors,” said Guindon.

The entrants must also be able to answer interview questions and promote agriculture within their area and community.

Current Queen of the Furrow Derika Nauta will yield her crown to this yearā€™s winner during the Celebration of Excellence when other competition winners will be also be announced.

The IPM runs from September 17th to the 21st in West Nipissing.
