SIU clears North Bay police officers

The Special Investigations Unit has no plans to charge North Bay police officers after a man jumped out a window when they broke into an apartment.

The 54-year-old hit the ground and injured himself on the night of June 26th.

The SIU says on that night the police were responding to a 911 call when the caller hung up.

But just before the line went dead, the dispatcher heard screaming in the background, so police responded.

When they got to the second floor of the Main Street West apartment the officers heard what sounded like an argument inside.

First, they knocked, but when there was no answer the officers kicked open the door.

Just as they were doing that, a man jumped from the window.

The SIU says while the man jumped because of the police presence, they were on site to ensure the wellbeing of whoever was inside the apartment.

The SIU says the officers neither caused nor contributed to the man’s injury that would warrant charges against them and has closed the case.
