OPP, city police and border agents discover illegals living in North Bay

An incident of stunt driving on Highway 11 in Powassan has led to the arrest of seven people being in Canada illegally.

When he stopped the vehicle, the officer learned the driver was a 26-year-old Mexican who didn’t have a valid driver’s license and was living in North Bay.

That prompted a further investigation where police learned that one of the passengers was a 28-year-old also from Mexico but living in Toronto and with them was a 19-year-old Chilean resident living in Toronto.

All three were in Canada illegally.

The investigation doesn’t end there.

Once the North Bay OPP contacted Canada Border Services, the agency came to North Bay to carry out an independent investigation.

With help from the OPP and city police, the border agents determined a further four people living at a home in North Bay and all from Mexico were in Canada illegally.

The people were brought to the North Bay jail and all seven are being processed under Canada immigration laws.

The person who was stopped for speeding on Highway 11 and triggered the entire investigation is also charged with stunt driving.
