Council to declare lot on Floral Street surplus for sale purpose

The Municipality of West Nipissing has taken the first step to sell a parcel of land it owns on Floral Street.

The land is being declared surplus.

The vacant lot faces the public works yard and the interested buyer already owns some land that abuts the municipal lot.

The land has no services and the potential buyer wants to use it for storage.

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation has an assessed value of $37,500 for the empty lot and the buyer wants to offer $20,000.

With the land being deemed surplus, it clears the way for the municipality to have it appraised.

Meanwhile, there is some resistance on council from Denis Senecal and Roly Larabie to let the property go for what the interested buyer is offering.

Councillor Yvon Duhaime agrees and wants staff to negotiate a fair selling price above $20,000.

Assuming the sale is approved, the new owner would have to have the lot rezoned so that it can accommodate storage use.
