Former education director back at Near North board for a while

The Near North District School Board has a former education director back.

Geof Botting, who served as education director from 2011 to 2015, is back in the same position he left four years ago.

Botting was approached to replace current director Jackie Young who is on 30-day sick leave.

Board chair Jay Aspin says the school board “is very fortunate” to have secured Botting’s services on an interim basis.

“He knows the board and a lot of the people,” Aspin said.

Aspin says on Wednesday he took Botting to meet the various board personnel and said Botting recognized so many faces that Aspin felt the interim director should be doing the introductions.

Botting was in Ottawa when contacted by the board about the interim position and Aspin says he will be fulfilling his duties in North Bay.

Aspin also says during his stay he will make what Young earned and that he is covering his own expenses.

Aspin points out securing Botting’s service won’t impact the budget on the salary side.

That’s because Young’s wages are covered by the board’s sick leave plan.

Aspin adds Botting’s salary will remain the same until the board knows more about Young’s situation.

As for getting down to work and handling the affairs of the board, Aspin says Botting “hit the ground running”.
