More long-term care beds going to Casselholme Home for the Aged

Twenty-four new long-term care beds are being added to Casselholme East Nipissing District Home for the Aged in North Bay.

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli made the announcement on Tuesday.

Fedeli says the existing 240 beds are being upgraded to modern design standards in addition to the new beds being added.

The cost to modernize the facility is about $55-million.

However, work won’t begin for a while because tenders won’t go out until the fall.

In making the announcement Fedeli says Ontarians deserve access to high-quality health care that they can rely on.

He says Tuesday’s news is another example of the Ford government putting patients first by improving their access to the best possible care.

Across Ontario, there are more than 34,000 people waiting to get into a long-term care facility.

The government has committed to creating 15,000 long-term beds over five years.
