Northern Secondary School replaces Braves logo with Northern Stars

It’s taken two years, but Northern Secondary School in Sturgeon Falls finally has a new logo.

A five-pointed silver and red star replaces the former Braves head.

The new logo is to reflect changing times because some people found the Braves head offensive.

The school is promoting itself as Northern Stars and the red and silver are representative of the school’s colours.

The shape was picked to show that all students can be stars and can reach for the stars to reach their maximum potential.

Brandon Harvey, a graduating student at Northern, designed The Stars logo.

The design went through a consultation process that involved students, staff, community members and school alumni.

The school has already changed its Facebook page with references to Braves gone.

However, next up is changing the Wikipedia name which, as of June 25th, still indicated the school’s teams are known as Braves.
