The call to the West Nipissing Fire Department went out at 2:12am from a nearby neighbour of the business who first heard sounds, then looked out a window and saw smoke. Fire Chief Richard Maranda says firefighters were on the scene within moments and the fire was out by 7:30am. Maranda says the fire started inside the building in the back but the cause is not known. Maranda says the Fire Marshall’s Office has been called but at this time he’s not sure if it will send an investigator to the scene. Maranda had no damage estimate but says the building and its contents were completely destroyed. During the fire, Salter Street was closed but it has since reopened.
