Verner Municipal Building safe for occupancy again

It’s good news for residents of Verner.

The Verner Municipal Building has been declared 100 percent safe for occupancy.

The building was declared unsafe last year in April and forced all the tenants to find new quarters.

That included the library which will be the first service to resume operations next Monday.

Although it’s not official, the doctor’s office in the building may open next week on Friday to once again start accepting patients.

Staff told council that the gym in the building is now down.

However, the slab that supported the gym is still in place and staff says it’s in very good shape.

Staff add if council intends to use the slab for public activities, then a layer of cement should be laid overtop to make it safe for people.

The site remains a construction zone and is still fenced off, but staff again emphasizes the building is ready for re-entry.

Sometime in July, the site will see playground equipment installed and at this point, it’s not known when the splash pad can become operational.
