Flood warning replaced with water safety statement

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has ended the flood warning for the North Bay District.

The warning has been replaced with a water safety statement which is in effect until next Monday.

The MNRF says the water level on Lake Nipissing has started to drop.

It says it’s been dropping by 1 to 2 centimetres a day.

The ministry adds whether that rate continues depends on how much more rain the region receives in the days ahead.

In West Nipissing, the municipality says water levels in its area are expected to remain stable or could recede depending on wind and rain.

The municipality continues to keep flood roads closed except for Leduc Road which re-opened on Monday.

Municipal officials are again getting calls about people driving on these closed roads and in some cases, motorists are speeding.

The municipality says if a road is closed, people need to stay off it unless they’re getting to their primary home.

West Nipissing says boat launch availability remains limited.

Both the MNRF and municipality are asking boaters to use caution when on the waterways so that their wakes don’t crash into the shoreline and damage waterfront properties.
