A Sudbury man is charged with two counts of attempted murder after a 35-year-old woman was stabbed in the neck in the city and her nine-month-old child suffered numerous bruises after being hit.

The woman is in critical condition.

The stabbing took place around 3:30pm Monday outside the Michael’s department store and police say the attack was random and vicious.

As soon as it occurred, police began getting numerous calls about the incident.

Before they arrived a passerby managed to remove the knife from the accused and held the 25-year-old down until police arrived.
