With the official takeover of the OPP in West Nipissing taking place next month, the West Nipissing Police Board is holding a special event to commemorate municipal policing.
It’s at 6:00pm this evening at the Marcel Noel Hall at the Sturgeon Falls Complex.
The event is to recognize 123 years of municipal policing dating back to 1896 when the Sturgeon Falls police department was first formed until 20 years ago when amalgamation in Nipissing District brought about the West Nipissing Police Services.
The commemoration is open to the public and includes speeches from past police chiefs and also presentations.
The public will also be able to see photographs of police activity taken over the years.
