Council to take multi-year approach on repairs to Lavigne Fire Hall

It’s going to cost $370,000 to make repairs to the Lavinge Fire Hall which will keep it operational for quite a few more years.

However, West Nipissing council won’t spend that amount all at once.

The consensus is to spend about $102,000 this year which will cover costs like shingling the roof and address drywall issues inside the building.

CAO Jay Barbeau says the building remains structurally sound and spending the $102,000 is the recommendation from the architect who says that’s the minimum council should spend this year.

Mayor Joanne Savage says spending that amount buys the municipality time on how to address the future needs of the building.

Barbeau agrees and says with a few more years of life, council then has time to do an analysis for the building’s long-term future.

Replacing the Lavigne Fire Hall with a new building would easily cost millions of dollars.

During the renovation and repair work, fire service will not be interrupted.
