Municipal boat launches closed

The municipal boat launches in West Nipissing are closed until further notice.

The municipality has closed the launches because of the rising water levels of Lake Nipissing.

Although the municipal launches are closed, that doesn’t mean people can’t get their boats into the water.

However, if they do, West Nipissing police are warning them to take it easy on the throttle and not create wakes which could make their way back to the shoreline.

Police will increase their patrols on the Sturgeon River and Lake Nipissing to make sure people are not causing wakes with their boats.

Police also have a reminder for boaters.

The water is flowing quickly this time of year and may be carrying debris that could run into your boat and in the process damage it.

Police recommend boaters watch for debris.

Police also want people to use good common sense while boating.

They say resources are limited because of the flood warnings and it may take time to respond to an emergency, especially if you’re on the water.
