Emergency Services personnel visiting West Nipissing residents during flood crisis

Emergency Services personnel in West Nipissing have been meeting with homeowners explaining their options on evacuating as the municipality remains under a state of emergency.

With numerous road closures, the concern is emergency vehicles can`t get to someone still in their home in the event rising water threatens their property.

Earlier on Thursday, West Nipissing Police Chief Ray St. Pierre said some residents may have to consider evacuation.

If you weren`t home when Emergency Services visited your home, call the municipal office at 753-1171.

If you need accommodations call the same number.

The rising water levels have forced a number of roads to close.

The municipality is now regularly updating the closures on its website at www.westnipissing,ca

Sandbags continue to be made available at the Sturgeon Falls Fire Station around the clock and at the Lavigne Fire Station from 9:00am to 4:30pm.

The municipality can use volunteers and anyone who can step up during this time of need is asked to call 753-1171.

On Jocko Point Road, homeowners continue to face a rising Lake Nipissing that threatens a number of properties.

Nipissing First Nation is making 300 sandbags available per lot as a barrier to the rising lake which is not expected to peak for another two weeks.
