West Nipissing police learn which of them will transfer to the OPP

Officers with the West Nipissing Police Service have been told which of them will transfer to the OPP and which ones won’t.

Jay Barbeau, the CAO of the Municipality of West Nipissing, told town council both he and Police Chief Ray St. Pierre met with the employees one-on-one.

Barbeau told council it was a very intense and emotional day but adds now the waiting is over.

The CAO did not publicly say how many officers are transitioning to the OPP.

However, the successful candidates will report to the OPP training centre June 9th for orientation and begin their training the next day.

During their absence, OPP officers will patrol West Nipissing until the trainees return.

Barbeau also said the OPP are close to naming the Detachment Commander.

The name of that person is expected very soon.
